Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan feels India is a dated team in one-day internationals. He reacted to former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer’s tweet following India’s loss against New Zealand in the first ODI on Friday, November 25 at Eden Park in Auckland. They failed to defend 307 runs, losing the encounter by seven wickets.
Batting first, Team India put on 306 runs on the board, on the back of the fifties from Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, and Shubman Gill. Dhawan scored 72 runs off 77 deliveries, while Shubman Gill managed a 65-ball 50. Shreyas Iyer looked in good touch, continuing his form in the ODIs. He made 80 runs from 76 deliveries, with four boundaries and as many sixes. All-rounder Washington Sundar’s quickfire 37 took India past the 300 mark.
In response, Tom Latham slammed a magnificent 145 runs and knock off 104 deliveries, with nineteen boundaries and five sixes. Kane Williamson also played a fine knock of 94 runs, to power New Zealand to an easy win. Following India’s loss, Wasim Jaffer took to social media to express his thoughts on the match.
He wrote, “Well played @BLACKCAPS Made 300 look like 270. Williamson was all class as always but Latham stole the show. Not easy for an opener to move down the order and still be successful. India missed a trick by just playing 5 bowlers. #NZvIND”
Reacting to Wasim Jaffer’s tweet Michael Vaughan said, “They are a dated ODI team .. you need at least 6 if not 7 bowling options.”

Just one of those days when everything came off well: Tom Latham reflects on his knock against India in the first ODI
New Zealand wicket-keeper batter Tom Latham earned the Player of the Match award following his terrific century in the first ODI on Friday, November 25 at Eden Park in Auckland. Reflecting on his knock, Latham expressed that he and Kane Williamson tried to build a partnership, which paid off. He said at the post-match presentation.
“It was just one of those days when everything came off well. Built a partnership with Kane and had a bit of fun, just reacted to things and it paid off. It’s about being in strong positions and react to what they were bowling. Was able to find the gaps. The preparation has been ideal, it’s been nice, and was able to hit the ball right today. Sundar was getting some turn and found it a bit hard to play against him. It’s a small ground and we could capitalize at the end. Don’t know where that came from, just one of those days.”
