The Indian side is set to play the limited-overs leg against the Carribiens starting today. The series commences with the T20I series at Hyderabad. With Dhawan being ruled out, no clear indication has been provided by the team management on the opening pair. KL Rahul is the front runner, but confusions pertain on the same.
Former Indian skipper K Srikanth said that India needs to look for someone to get instant runs on the board. He said that KL Rahul should be considered for the spot, thus overlooking Dhawan. He shared his views on his column for Times of India.
Speaking on the same he said, “The hosts need to slot KL Rahul firmly as an opener and look beyond Dhawan. The need of the hour is the instant firepower and that”s one area where India is lacking. Of course, there is Kohli and other talents to makeup but that might not be enough on the big day, as the team found out in many ICC tournaments over the last few years. “
Though Rahul has been consistent in shorter formats, his position hasn”t been justified yet. He provided the much-needed kick start in the IPL and in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as well. It will be interesting to see if he will be finalized a position depending on the results of the Carribean series.
The encounter begins today
We will have to wait and see if KL Rahul will be promoted as an opener today.
The series will act as a preparation for the T20 World Cup next year. Can the Indian side build a formidable XI in the series?
