Former India batter Wasim Jaffer has slammed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Rinku Singh following his poor show in their IPL 2026 clash against the Gujarat Titans (GT) on Friday, April 17, in Ahmedabad. Opting to bat, KKR were bowled out for 180 in 20 overs, with Rinku scoring one off two balls. In response, GT captain Shubman Gill top-scored with 86 off 50 and won by five wickets with two balls to spare as well.
During a discussion on his YouTube channel after the contest, Jaffer said, “Rinku Singh has been disappointing, in my opinion. He is a current India player, a World Cup winner, and his role becomes very important in the middle order at number five or six. But I don’t know, this has been a very subdued season for him. He also had a part to play. If KKR wants to perform well, he also has to take responsibility. He is a very important player; you cannot ignore him.”
“I don’t understand what is going on in Rinku Singh’s mind. How can you get out playing such a big shot on just the second ball? After that, Ramandeep also played one or two good shots and then got out. You know you don’t have that kind of strength in your lower order, they won’t be able to take you through. So I didn’t really understand the logic,” he again stated.
Wasim Jaffer applauds Cameron Green’s return to form
During the same discussion, Wasim Jaffer also shared that Cameron Green’s return to form was the only positive for KKR in the game as he scored 79 off 55 balls, including seven fours and four sixes as well. However, he slammed Rinku Singh and Ramandeep Singh for poor game awareness as well.
“One positive was that Cameron Green looked in very good form. So that’s one good thing. But you know, the way Rinku Singh got out and the way Ramandeep got out, you can see Cameron Green is batting so well at the other end and there are still five overs left,” he concluded.
