This legend likely to become Delhi Daredevils” new coach

Former Australian Captain Ricky Ponting is in the race to become Delhi Daredevils’ new head coach in IPL 2018. The Tasmanian, who was Australia’s most successful test captain, was part of Mumbai Indians outfit. He led them in first few matches of 2013 season before handing over reigns of the side to Rohit Sharma.

In 2015 he was appointed as the head coach of Mumbai Indians and mentored them to the title win. He left Mumbai Indians this year following his appointment as coach of the Australian team in a short stint.

Ponting is most likely to be signed up by the Daredevils as their next coach. However, apart from the Daredevils, he”s also being wooed by the Rajasthan Royals (who”ll return to the IPL after a two-year ban due to the spot-fixing scandal),” a source close to the developments told TOI on Thursday, November 16.

The Delhi Daredevils are one of the three teams to never win an IPL title, other two being Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab. Over the years, they have made a lot of chopping and changing and never stuck to the same set of players.

Hence they have not been able to build a core in the squad like some other teams in IPL. Not only players, they have fiddled around coaching staff as well. Greats like Rahul Dravid, Gary Kirsten, and Sir Viv Richards have been a part of Delhi’s coaching staff but were unable to bring the results.

Former India fast bowler TA Sekar stepped down as Director of Delhi Daredevils last week. Sekar had been involved with the franchise since its inception in 2008.

Some sources say, Sekar is likely to make a move to Mumbai Indians as former Indian batsman Robin Singh and fast bowler Paras Mhambrey have parted ways with Mumbai Indians. Robin has opened a school academy in Dubai and Mhambrey has taken up the role of fast bowling coach at NCA.
