Ton on debut for Gomel while Sarfaraz’s magical form continues in the Ranji Trophy

One thing ominous for Mumbai this season has been the fact that youngsters are showing a lot of promise and coming up with exceptional performances. Mumbai team this season has brought new faces and have not been completely dependant on Seniors which is a very positive sign.

This season in particular had so many players making their Ranji Trophy debuts, right from Mumbai U23 Captain Hardik Tamore, Mumbai’s U23 run master Bhupen Lalwani and now the local lad from Mumbai Aakarshit Gomel. Even Ankush Jaiswal has got a much deserved call up while India A youngster Shams Mulani has stamped his position as a first choice all rounder. These are all good signs for Mumbai Cricket as the board is continuously churning out talented faces to ensure that Mumbai Cricket is in good hands.

In the recent match vs Madhya Pradesh, Mumbai batting first at the iconic Wankhede Stadium posted a gigantic total of 427/8 in 108.3 overs. Aakarshit Gomel opening the innings in his debut match went on to score a confident 122 facing 240 deliveries laced with 11 fours and a six. Batting 40 overs single handedly on debut is itelf a sign of how much practice players like Gomel must have done to get their call up. Gomel looked very well prepared while he also stitched a 175 run stand with the in-form Sarfaraz Khan who brought up his 3rd consecutive hundred. Sarfaraz who scored double century, then a triple and now follows it up with a firecracker of a knock hitting 177 off 210 balls (24 fours, 3 sixes) to put Mumbai team on top.

Madhya Pradesh in reply are batting on Day 2 and it will be a very difficult game for them to defeat the Mumbai team who are looking in pristine touch in all departments.
