Over the years we have seen some unfortunate moments take place on the Cricket field. Funny banter has sometimes led to sledging and then even worse. Cricketers try to perform at the best of their abilities and sometimes the emotions get the better of them. They are involved in heated arguments with the opposition players which isn’t a great sight for the world to see. Tempers fly high and occasionally they are even close to exchanging blows on the cricket field. There have been several famous cricket fights in the history of the game. 

Cricket is a gentleman’s game and the players are invariably asked to follow the rules and regulations and avoid fights on the field. But ultimately sometimes while playing for their countries the players wear hearts on their sleeves and end up having aggrieved discussions. Nobody wants to lose at any cost and in the process, the passionate players have every so often have stepped over the line. 10. Ishant Sharma and Kamran Akmal

India vs Pakistan the fiercest rivalry in Cricket and to be fair when the two nations clash it’s more than just a game of Cricket. 2012 on the day of Christmas the two nations met in a T20 match at Bengaluru. Ishant Sharma and Kamran Akmal had enough of each other and the two almost knocked each other out in the middle of the 22 yards.

The two umpires and rest of the players tried taking each other from each other as things could have gone even worse. It felt as if the crowd as seeing a heavyweight bout between two boxers as they stood face to face against each other. Luckily the two realised that this isn’t helping either side and calmed down and the match continued again.

9. MS Dhoni and Mustafizur Rahman (2015)

MS Dhoni is usually the calmest person during a match in the entire stadium. Nothing fazed the former Indian captain it seemed as if he practised meditation on the cricket field. But then sometimes certain things can annoy even the most peaceful person. Bangladesh debutant in that match Mustafizur Rahman was seen coming in the way of India batsman in the middle of a run.

Dhoni did not like it one bit and decided to take matters into his own hands. It seemed Dhoni deliberately pushed Mustafizur away while reaching the crease. Both players collided with each and as a result, both players were penalised by the match referee. Dhoni was fined 75 per cent of his match fees whereas Rahman was fined 50 per cent.

8. India U-19 and Bangladesh U-19

This is by far the latest entrant in the list of most unfortunate moments on the cricket field. The final of the U19 Cricket world cup between two neighbouring countries India and Bangladesh. Bangladesh ultimately won the match and then things turned ugly pretty ugly.

The Bangladeshi players ran towards the pitch to celebrate and in the process abused many of the Indian players. As expected the players of both teams were seen pushing each other. The two teams were separated by supporting staff of both teams but the damage has already been done.

ICC looked into the matter and found some of the players guilty. 5 players were found guilty of a Level 3 breach of the ICC’s code of conduct.

7. Micheal Clarke and James Anderson 2013


Australia was on the brink of wrapping up the first Test match of the Ashes at Brisbane. The last batsmen James Anderson came to bat and the short leg fielder George Bailey was in his ears from the get-go. Anderson was having nothing of it and tried talking about it to the stand in umpires.

The Englishman then was seen showing a punch to Bailey which annoyed the Aussie captain Clarke. He rushed in to confront Anderson and said: “Get ready for a broken F***** arm”. Australia after a few moments won the match but Clarke after the match was fined 20 per cent of the match fees.

6. Venkatesh Prasad and Aamir Sohail


The quarterfinals of 1996 Cricket World saw a famous argument between Venkatesh Prasad of India and Aamir Sohail of Pakistan. Sohail was batting brilliantly and it seemed he will take Pakistan to a famous win. Then suddenly he got carried away after hitting a boundary of Prasad.

He immediately signalled Prasad to not only keep quiet but also to fetch the ball from the boundary rope. Prasad would have a reply of his own as he knocked Sohail’s off-stump out of the ground and showed him the way to the pavilion.

5. Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir in the IPL 2014


Things will now start to heat up as it’s time for the top 5. Coming in next is the two Indian players who played with each other in the India team as well as for Delhi in domestic cricket. The two aggressive Delhiites Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir were involved in an ugly spat during an IPL match.

Gambhir’s Kolkata Knight Riders dismissed Virat, and he gave a send-off to the Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman which not impress him one bit. He quickly went to Gambhir and openly showed his anger on the field. Gambhir too was not backing down and the two exchanged harsh words in the middle before the umpires and players quickly intervened.

The images of these to having a go at each other will always stay in the minds of every cricket fan of India.

4. Harbhajan Singh and S Sreesanth in IPL 2008


The very first season of the IPL saw two Indian players involved in an ugly spat. Kings XI Punjab had defeated Mumbai Indians in a match and the players of two teams were doing the customary handshakes after the match. The Mumbai skipper Harbhajan disappointed from the loss out of the blue slapped his Indian teammate Sreesanth.

This left everyone stunned on the ground as nobody expected this to take place. Sreesanth was seen with tears while his other teammates tried consoling him. Harbhajan was banned for the remaining of the IPL season as he inappropriately slapped Sreesanth after the match.

3. Harbhajan and Symonds at Sydney 2008


The famous ‘monkey gate’ scandal comes in at number 3, which is arguably one of the most heated altercations on the field of cricket. Sachin Tendulkar and Harbhajan Singh were involved in an important partnership for India in their first innings. They were keeping the bowlers at pay before the Aussies decided to sledge Harbhajan.

Andrew Symonds and Harbhajan were having a go at each other before the Australians claimed that the Indian had used the offensive word ‘monkey’ for Symonds. The two players went to the court after the match where the Judge decided that Australians racist insult for Symonds had no conclusive evidence.

2. Kiran More and Javed Miandad 1992 World Cup


This one is the funniest incident out of them all that saw Javed Miandad jumping as he tried to imitate Kiran More. The Pakistani batsman claimed to the umpire that the wicketkeeper was unnecessarily appealing and jumping while appealing.

The next ball after making his ground Miandad looked at More and started jumping and created a historic moment in world cup history. The Pakistan batsman should have been focusing on the target which they were struggling to chase. Miandad got out as More and India had the last laugh in the first-ever World cup encounter between the two arch-rivals.

1. Gautam Gambhir and Shahid Afridi 2007

Well I mean they are still having a dig at each other even after their incident that took place 13 years ago. Two fiery characters Shahid Afridi and Gautam Gambhir for a moment forget that they were playing a cricket match. They were hell-bound on punching each other after the two had collided with each other while Gambhir was pinching a quick single.

Afridi was making an LBW appeal as he hit his shoulder on the helmet of Gambhir midway on the pitch. Gambhir then adjusted his helmet and came face to face with Afridi. The two were not backing down and abused each other in Hindi and Urdu. The crowd sensed the tension between the two and also started to cheer when the two were swearing at each other.

The umpire took Gambhir away from Afridi and asked him to calm down. Rightly both players were punished after the match as both were fined by the match referee for this incident.
