1. RAINING PRAISES FOR RAINA

Rishabh Pant lost his father just before the start of IPL 10. Yet the spirit he showed by coming back strong was highly commendable. In a game against the Gujarat Lions, Pant smashed a 43 ball 97 playing with Samson (61 off 31 balls).

When the former lost his wicket to Basil Thampi, Suresh Raina: Captain of the Lions walked up to him and consoled him in what was a sheer heart winning gesture. Exhibiting true sportsmanship, Raina earned much appreciation from the masses while Pant almost won it for his team.

2. HIGHEST AND LOWEST TOTAL RECORD WITH THE SAME TEAM

When you have the world’s best in your team, you wouldn’t even have it in your dreams that the Lowest Team Total record will be yours. Royal Challengers Bangalore had to face utmost embarrassment as they were bowled out on an unbelievably low score of 49. Playing against the Kolkata Knight Riders, their innings ended in 9.4 overs with a scorecard that had no player’s score going above 10. Ironically, RCB is also the team which holds the record of the Highest Team Aggregate of 263/5.

3. HAPPY HAT-TRICK DAY

Hattricks in any sport always hold great value and in the 10th season of IPL we had 3 of them! Interestingly, two of them were claimed on the very same day. On 14th April 2017, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Samuel Badree took the first hattrick of the edition in a match against the Mumbai Indians. This match was followed by the 08:00 pm game between the Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiant.

GL’s Andrew Tye happened to take a hattrick and in the same manner as the first one in the day was taken. Not only did Tye become the first bowler to claim a hattrick on IPL debut but also took the first 5-wicket haul of IPL 10. The third hattrick was taken by Pune’s Jaydev Unadkat against Hyderabad on 6th May 2017.

4. THE NORTH WESTERN FEAST

The game between Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab that was fought in Wankhede saw a total of 453 runs being smashed. The Kings put a mighty total of 230/3 on board. The home team left no stones unturned while chasing this but lost the plot towards the end facing a 7 run defeat. For Punjab it was yet another win that prevented them from being knocked out of the tournament.

5. SUPEROVER SPECIAL

Spectators at Rajkot received a visual treat as the encounter between Gujarat Lions and Mumbai Indians ended in a tie. This resulted in the first (and the only) Superover of IPL 2017 taking place. MI batting first lost both their wickets and Gujarat had to score 12 in 6 balls. Jaspreet Bumrah was handed the ball and boy, he did a fantastic job. The start was not at all favourable as the pacer bowled a no ball followed by a wide on the 3rd ball. He kept his cool and managed to defend the score as Mcculum and Finch together could only manage 6 runs in 6 deliveries.

6. LYNNSANITY COMBINED WITH NARINE HURRICANE

The damage inflicted upon RCB by these two KKR beasts was pretty serious. Sunil Narine & Chris Lynn proved to be lethal when they came out to open and smashed 105 in the first 6 overs, highest total in powerplay. RCB bowling line up was ripped apart as the West Indian registered the joint fastest IPL fifty in 15 balls and the Aussie giant got his half ton in 21 deliveries. They chased 159 with 29 balls remaining.

7. THE APPRESHOEATION

The Australian tour of India in the beginning of the year saw some fierce competition between the two teams. However, Sunrisers’ Captain – David Warner showcased remarkable sportsmanship in the game against the Gujarat Lions. Batting with the skipper was Moises Henriques who hit the ball down the ground. In an attempt to stop the ball, Basil Thampi (the bowler) ended up losing his shoe. Warner who was in the middle of a run, stopped by and handed over the shoe to him. The Aussie garnered tons of praises for his action and he also went on to score 76 off 45 balls.

8. MAHENDRA SINGH BAHUBALI

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is doubted to be the best finisher in the game of Cricket. We have had the honour to watch his knocks that have made ours jaws drop. One of them came against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 10. After having a dry run in the season and being at the receiving end of heavy criticism, the former Captain helped his team chase 177 by blasting a 34 ball 61. He won it for his team on the last ball and gained a standing ovation from the spectators and his team. The knock bought back the vintage vibes that silenced many.

9. THE VINTAGE SINGH

Nobody is unaware about the dynamism of Yuvraj Singh. After all the man who hit 6 Sixes in an over certainly cannot be taken lightly. In the clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders, the stylish left hander smashed a Maximum that was absolutely worthy of being played on a loop. The magnificent shot earned Yuvi the Vitara Brezza Glam Shot of the Season Award.

10. ‘MI’GHTY MUMBAI

59 matches – played at different venues among 8 different teams over a course of 46 days and then at the end comes the Final Match, the one that decides the Ultimate Champion of the Season. The Grand Finale of IPL 10, held at Hyderabad between the two  Maharashtrian forces – Rising Pune Supergiant and Mumbai Indians turned from a dull and a sluggish affair to the most thrilling clash of all times.

With MI winning the toss and being able to put merely 130 runs on board, it was Pune’s game to lose. Well, Mumbai is the most unpredictable side and this very factor came on display in the 2nd innings of the Finale. With some brilliant decisions and tactics, MI managed to gain momentum. Came the last over which was to be bowled by Johnson and 11 were required off it.

A four in the beginning followed by 2 wickets, a single and a double left Pune needing a 4 on the last ball to win.  Christian and Sundar completed 2 runs and just when they were about to go for the 3rd one, Suchith threw the ball to Parthiv who knocked the stumps. Pune, highly disappointed lost the game, not just a game, the Finals by a run with Smith’s 50 going in vain. It was an ideal final that marked the completion of 10 years of Indian Premier League.
