Top 3 Leading Run Getter For Team India In Test Matches For 2022

The Indian team played a total of 7 Test matches in 2022 including 2 away Test matches in South Africa, two at home against Sri Lanka, 1 remaining Test match in England, and 2 fixtures against Bangladesh in their home den. All these fixtures were a part of the ICC 2021/23 Test Championship cycle.

Out of the 7 Test matches, India played this year, they won 4 and lost 3 matches. They lost two fixtures on South African soil and one remaining Test match in England. Indian team whitewashed Sri Lanka 2-0 at home. They ended the year with a 2-0 whitewash against Bangladesh.

There were some great induvial performances for Team India in longer formats that will be remembered forever.

  1. Rishabh Pant

The left-handed explosive batter Rishabh Pant ended as the leading run-getter for Team India in Test matches for 2022. He made 680 runs from 7 matches (12 innings) with 680 runs with an average of 61.81. Pant looked impressive in the home series against Sri Lanka. He made 185 runs in 3 innings and was named the player of the series award.

It was a remarkable performance by Pant who showed intent against opponent bowlers. During 2022, he hit 2 centuries and 4 half-centuries to his name, with the best score of 146 in the first innings of the 5th Test match played at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

With India losing 5 wickets cheaply, Pant came to the crease and hammered the England bowlers with aggressive intent. He made 146 off 111 balls with 19 fours and 4 sixes to help India post 416.

He has also made a quickfire 93 runs in the first innings of the second Test match at Sher E Bangla Stadium, Mirpur. His ability to put pressure on opposition bowlers makes him a dangerous batter to bowl at.

  1. Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer put up a decent performance for Team India in 2022 during Test matches. He featured in 5 matches (8 innings) and scored 422 runs with 4 half-centuries to his name. He produced a match-winning knock in the first innings at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru against Sri Lanka in March.

While Indian batters struggled to score runs, Shreyas Iyer looked impressive with a well-made 92 helping Team India post 252. He then backed up with another superb 67 runs in the 2nd innings that took the hosts to set Sri Lanka massive total. For his match-winning performances, he was named player of the match.

He put up an excellent display in the 2nd Test match against Bangladesh at Sher E Bangla Stadium, Mirpur. With India struggling during both innings, he made 87 and an unbeaten 29 to help Team India win the match by 3 wickets. Both Shreyas Iyer and R Ashwin put on 71 runs for the 8th wicket.

  1. Cheteshwar Pujara

The solid number 3 batter, Cheteshwar Pujara ended the year in Test matches with 409 runs from 5 matches (10 innings) including 1 century and 3 half-centuries.

He has been struggling with form this year. He produced an impressive knock in the 2nd innings of the 5th Test match against England making 66 runs while opening.

His performance stood out during the first Test match at Chattorgam. He scored his first Test century after January 2019 in 2nd innings against Bangladesh.

His knock helped Team India post 404 runs in the first innings. For his brilliant knocks, Pujara was named the player of the series award.
