The 2021 IPL Auction was a power-packed event as we witnessed quite a few records been broken. From Royal Challengers Bangalore spending a fortune to buy the likes of Kyle Jamieson and Glenn Maxwell to Chennai Super Kings making smart picks in the form of Moeen Ali, Krishnappa Gowtham, and Cheteshwar Pujara.

Even the likes of Kedar Jadhav, Karun Nair, and Arjun Tendulkar who failed to find a bid in the initial rounds were eventually picked in the last round of the auction. Keeping in mind all the picks made in today’s auction, we take a look at the five best buys made by franchises in the IPL Auction.

1. Dawid Malan (Bought By Punjab Kings For ₹ 1.5 crores)

The number T20 batsman in the World was sold to the Punjab Kings franchise as was picked up for an absolute bargain of ₹ 1.5 crores. After scoring 855 runs in just 19 matches for the England T20 side, Malan was going to be one of the top picks going into the auction given that the latter is in red hot form.

With the kind of form, Dawid Malan is in the shortest form of the game, it was expected that Dawid Malan would fetch a hefty amount but Punjab Kings acquired the Englishmen’s services merely for ₹ 1.5 crores making him one of the best buys of the IPL 2021 auction.

2. Fabian Allen (Bought By Punjab Kings For ₹ 75 lakhs)

The Jamaican who boasts a strike rate of 159.21 in 32 T20Is, Fabian Allen was picked by the Punjab Kings franchise for just a sum of ₹ 75 lakhs. In the past, Fabian Allen was part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad during IPL 2020 but failed to get a single game due to the presence of the likes of Rashid Khan and Mohammed Nabi in the squad.

With Fabian Allen being a part of the Punjab Kings franchise, it is expected that the all-rounder will be the next big thing in cricket. Few knowledgeable experts of the game believe that Fabian Allen might as well go Andre Russell’s way in the near future.

3. Shakib Al Hasan (Bought By KKR For ₹  3.20 crores)

The Bangladeshi all-rounder is all set to mark his return in the IPL which would also mark the homecoming to his former franchise the Kolkata Knight Riders. Shakib Al Hasan was bought for a sum of ₹ 3.20 and is expected to provide Eoin Morgan, Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik the much-needed support in the middle order.

Shakib Al Hasan was previously part of the Kolkata Knight Riders from 2011 to 2017 before moving on to the Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

4. Shivam Dube (Bought By RR For ₹ 4 crores)

Shivam Dube was bought by the Rajasthan Royals for a hefty sum of ₹ 4 crores after a heavy war with the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise. The Royal Challengers Bangalore released the all-rounder after serving the franchise for two seasons from 2019 to 2020.

Known for his big-hitting abilities, Shivam Dube has represented the Indian team in as many as 13 T20is with a top score of 54 which came against Bangladesh in 2019. The all-rounder is expected to support Rahul Tewatia in the finisher’s role as during the 2020 season Rajasthan Royals lacked the finishing firepower down the order.

5. Moeen Ali (Bought By CSK For ₹ 7 crore)

The English all-rounder was picked by the Chennai Super Kings franchise for a sum of ₹ 7 crores expected to fill the void made by Shane Watson’s departure. Going into the IPL 2021 auction, Chennai Super Kings had just one overseas slot remaining for which they chose Moeen Ali.

It is expected that Moeen Ali will be a constant name in the Chennai Super Kings playing XI. He will most likely accompany Ruturaj Gaikwad at the top though we could always him to bat in the middle order. Prior to the 2021 season, Moeen Ali was part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2018 to 2020.
