Top 5 Test Innings Of Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli made his debut for India in 2011. That seems like yesterday but he has come a long way since then.

Here is a look at Virat Kohli”s top 5 Test innings:-

After bowling out Australia for 380 India was in a spot of bother at 105-3 when Virat Kohli came in to bat. He started his innings with an aggressive approach, shared a 91-run partnership with Sachin but when Sachin got out he ground it out there and didn”t give his wicket away, something that shows his determination and hunger for runs. However, he was out in a disappointing fashion caught at mid-on, something he would like to forget.

Requiring 364 to win, Murali Vijay (99) and Virat Kohli (141) keep India in the chase for a long time. At one point Sourav Ganguly in commentary box said: ” the Only miracle can save Australia now!” The miracle did happen! Once Virat was dismissed for 141 no other Indian batsman could withstand the gile of Nathan Lyon and India were bowled out for 315. Having scored a hundred in 1st innings as well, Virat Kohli ended up with 256 runs in the match, the most by anyone on captaincy debut.

This is Virat”s highest score in test cricket. By doing so Virat Kohli became the first Indian captain to score 200 in the Caribbean. It helped India pile 566 on the board. R Ashwin came to the party first with 113 and then with a 7-for in 2nd Innings. India won by innings and 92 runs.

2. 169 vs Australia at Melbourne 28 December 2014

Like Adelaide, Melbourne is also a favorite ground of Virat Kohli in Australia. At MCG he has a test hundred, ODI hundred and a half-century in T20I. Now we are talking about boxing day test 2014. After Australia piled 530 in first innings, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane shared a massive 262-run partnership. Virat smashed 18 fours in his 169. Jinx scored 147 as well. The test ended in a draw.

1.119 vs South Africa at Johannesburg 18 December 2013

119 may not be a very big hundred but for me, this innings is very special. India was coming to South Africa with 8 consecutive overseas test losses behind their back. This was also India”s first test after Sachin”s retirement. This meant an experience of 200 tests was taken out of the picture. Once again when India needed someone to put their hand up, Virat delivered with a stunning 119. He also fell 4 runs short of his 100 in the 2nd Innings! Had he got there in 2nd Innings he would have become the first batsman to score hundred in both innings at Wanderers?
