The Indian Premier League is biggest platform for Indian and foreign players to showcase their talent to the world, also stake a claim in their national squads. In the past few years, many Indian players like Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, Pant to come into Indian national squad.

Apart from these many stars, there have been players that have been forgotten by the fans who have played few matches. IPL is one of the biggest leagues where top players like Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli come to play and entertain the crowd.

Here we look at the 8 IPL stars that fans have forgotten

  1. Damien Martyn

Damien Martyn was one of the good batsmen for Australia. He made his test debut in 1992 and retired from international cricket in 2006. Since his debut, he played 67 test matches and scored 4406 runs with an average 46.37 with 13 centuries and 23 half-centuries. Along with this, he represented Australia in 208 ODI’s scoring 5,346 runs at an average of 40.80.

In the Indian Premier League, Martyn was picked up by Rajasthan Royals in 2010 edition. He played only 1 IPL match scoring 19 off 24 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore. In that match, Rajasthan Royal was bowled out for 92 in 19.5 overs. Under the captaincy of Anil Kumble, RCB won the match with 56 balls to spare.

In the IPL, many great West Indies player has entertained Indian fans including Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, and Darren Sammy. One of best test players Shivnarine Chanderpaul played 164 matches scoring 11867 runs with an average of 51.37, scoring 30 centuries and 66 half-centuries.

The left-handed batsmen from West Indies did not perform well in IPL 2008. He played for Royal Challengers Bangalore side scored just 25 runs from 3 matches with an average of 8.33.

Wasim Jaffer known is one of the unsung heroes of Indian domestic cricket. He scored 286 for Vidarbha in the recently concluded Irani Trophy 2018 against Rest of India. Before playing for Vidarbha, one of the great players in Indian domestic circuit, Jaffer represented for Mumbai since making his first-class debut since 1996-97.

He has also represented for India in 31 test matches scoring 1944 runs with the best score an average of 34.10. Jaffer could not convert his domestic form in the IPL. He scored just 130 runs in 2 seasons with the best score of 50 at an average of 16.25. Since then, he has contributed to Indian domestic cricket.

Chaminda Vaas a good left-arm fast bowler for Sri Lanka made his international debut in 1994. He took 355 wickets in 111 matches, along with 400 wickets in 322 ODI matches. The left arm fast has the record of best ODI figures of 8/19.

In the inaugural edition in 2008, Chaminda Vaas was picked by Deccan Chargers. In that edition, the Sri Lankan fast bowler picked 13 wickets from 13 matches with an economy of 7.55 runs. The fans have forgotten him. He is not seen anywhere in IPL circuit since then.

Paul Valthaty one of the promising young talents made his first-class debut for Himachal Pradesh. He was picked in Indian Premier League by Kings XI Punjab franchise. He made his IPL debut in 2009. In the 2011 edition, Paul Valthaty played 14 matches and scored 463 runs with the best score of 120 not out against Chennai Super Kings.

In 2012 and 2013 editions, he did not play many matches for Kings XI Punjab. Since then fans have forgotten him.

RP Singh the former Indian fast bowler and commentator played made his IPL debut in 2008. He represented Deccan Chargers and helped them to become the champions in 2009 edition. Then he played for Kochi Tuskers Kerala. In 2012, edition RP Singh was bought by Mumbai Indians, in 2013 the Indian fast bowler played for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

He finally represented Rising Pune Supergiants. In total, he was among the top leading wicket-takers in IPL history. RP Singh took 90 wickets from 82 matches with an economy of 7.90, played his last IPL match on 10th May 2016 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The Indian fast bowler represented India in 14 test matches, 58 ODI’s and 10 T20I matches for Team India.

Andrew Symonds another hard-hitting batsman played for Australia in 26 test matches, 198 ODI’s and 14 T20I matches. He made his IPL debut for Deccan Chargers against Kolkata Knight Riders and played 39 IPL matches scoring 974 runs with an average of 36.07. His best score was 117 against Delhi Daredevils and has 5 half-centuries to his name in the IPL history.

He played his last IPL match against Rajasthan Royals in 2011. The Australian hard-hitting batsman made the batting look easy with power hitting and not allowing the opposition bowlers to settle in a line and length.
