The Day 1 of the IPL 2025 mega auction witnessed historic moments as teams scrambled to secure the best talents. Rishabh Pant made history by becoming the highest-bid player in IPL auction history at Rs. 27 crore.

Shreyas Iyer followed closely, going for Rs. 26.75 crore. The day saw all 10 teams spend a collective Rs. 467.95 crore, filling 72 slots while leaving 132 still open. Amidst the high-stakes bidding, some purchases stood out as brilliant strategic moves, while others raised eyebrows as questionable decisions.

Best Picks of IPL 2025 Mega Auction

The Delhi Capitals made waves with their astute acquisitions. KL Rahul, secured for Rs. 14 crore, was a significant addition to their lineup, bringing both leadership and consistency. They also bagged Harry Brook for Rs. 6.25 crore, a bargain considering his international form.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) used their Right to Match (RTM) card wisely, retaining Rachin Ravindra for Rs. 4 crore, a move reflecting foresight. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings (PBKS) made a stellar pick by acquiring Glenn Maxwell for Rs. 4.2 crore, adding an all-rounder of immense capability at a reasonable price.

Worst Picks of IPL 2025 Mega Auction

While some teams shined, others made choices that left fans puzzled. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spent a staggering Rs. 23.75 crore on Venkatesh Iyer, a price many felt was unjustified. CSK, despite their experienced squad, bought veteran Ravichandran Ashwin for Rs. 9.75 crore, missing an opportunity to invest in younger talent.

Sunrisers Hyderabad made a perplexing move by buying Ishan Kishan for Rs. 11.25 crore, despite already having a wicketkeeper-batter. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) also raised eyebrows by spending Rs. 11 crore on Jitesh Sharma while passing up KL Rahul for Rs. 14 crore, a decision that seemed misaligned with their needs.

Day 1 of the auction was a blend of smart strategies and debatable decisions. With 132 slots still open, Day 2 promises further excitement and surprises as teams refine their squads for IPL 2025.
