“Tried To Bribe Bumrah”- Shreyas Iyer Makes A Hilarious Confession After The First T20I vs Sri Lanka

In the first T20I match of the series against Sri Lanka on Thursday, India used as many as seven bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Venkatesh Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, and Deepak Hooda, all rolled their arms during the match.

It seems like Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, is experimenting with various combinations, as a part of the preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

Shreyas Iyer who bowls a bit of both off-spin and leg-spin, jokingly revealed that even he had discussed his possibilities of bowling in the death overs with vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah, but it did not work out in his favour.

“I had already put my hand up (for bowling). Around the 16th over, he [Rohit] went in and he had already informed Bumrah that these are the bowlers who need to bowl. I tried to bribe Bumrah but it didn’t work out for me (laughs),” Iyer said after the match.

Shreyas Iyer Hits A Huge ‘No-Look’ Six

Meanwhile, in the match, Shreyas Iyer was sent in to bat at the no.3 position. He made the most of the opportunity, scoring 57 runs in 28 balls with a strike rate of over 200. In his innings, Iyer smacked five fours and two massive sixes. One of them was his trademark ‘No-Look’ Shot.

The epic shot came during the 19th over of the Indian innings. The slower delivery from Chamika Karunaratne was right in Iyer’s arc and he made no mistake in dispatching the ball 90 metres away.

Shreyas Iyer had earlier remarked that batting at No. 3 is a natural position for him as he has spent his whole life playing at the same number. He also stated that coming in at No. 3 aids a batter in building big innings and, in certain cases, also finishing the game for the team.

“Very much comfortable at 3 because I have grown up batting at that number. You can go in early if a wicket falls and become an opener. But if you get set and make a big score, you can finish off in the end,” Iyer had stated ahead of the 1st T20I.
