Tushar Arothe resigns as Indian women’s cricket team coach after players’ revolt

Tushar Arothe steps down as the coach of Indian women”s cricket team. The 51-year old in his resignation letter cited “personal issues” as a primary reason.

This comes as a shocker to the Women”s team as the world T20 is just four months away at the Caribbean. It will be interesting which Indian player will be roped to fill his shoes.

BCCI accepted the resignation of Tushar Arothe and thanked for his services to the team. In its press released it said “Mr Arothe cited personal reasons behind his resignation and thanked the BCCI for giving him an opportunity to work with the Indian Women”s cricket team. The Board would like to convey that it has been a pleasure working with Mr Tushar Arothe and would like to thank him for his services towards the Indian Women”s team”.

However, there hasn”t been any news regarding the process for the appointment of next coach.

Any controversies?

It is to be noted that Tushar Arothe resigned a year prior to his two-year contract with the board. In 2017 he took up the reigns ahead of quadrangular series at Southafrica. He was asked to continue the position for a period of two years after India”s performance in women”s world cup in England.

Reports suggest that the terms between Tushar Arothe and Indian senior players weren”t well over past few months. It is to be noted that India lost Asia cup to Bangladesh who is yet to confirm their berth in the ICC WT20 later this year (Currently playing the qualifiers).

The team not only lost their winning streak but were behind the opposition in the league game too. If reports are to be believed, this incident brought differences and prompted for the resignation of Tushar.

Post-first-class retirement, Tushar spent his life in guiding players across several state cricket associations. He also had ties with Baroda women”s team, Chattisgarh and Tripura.

In his times at Baroda, he was one of the dependable all-rounders for the team. He represented over 114 First-class matches and amassed over 6000 runs. His abilities with the ball can”t be discounted as he accounted for 225 scalps too.

Nonetheless, it will really be a herculean task for the BCCI officials to find a replacement before the next fixture.
