Tara Norris from the United States of America achieved the dream of picking the first five-wicket haul in Women’s Premier League 2023 history against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on 5 March 2023.
It was a dominating performance by the Delhi Capitals team right from the word go. After being asked to bat first, Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma produced a dominating display of batting putting on 162 runs for the opening wicket laying a strong foundation for a big total. Kapp and Rodrigues continued domination over RCB bowlers and posted a massive score of 223 for 2 in 20 overs.
Alice Capsey got the breakthrough for DC getting rid of Sophie Devine with a stunning catch by Shafali Verma at mid-off. Capsey struck again to dismiss Smriti Mandhana leaving RCB in trouble. Tara Norris was bought into the attack and got her first wicket dismissing Ellyse Perry. She then dismissed Disha Kasat in the same over to leave Royal Challengers Bangalore in trouble.
Norris then got wickets of Richa Ghosh and Kanika Ahuja off successive deliveries to leave Royal Challengers Bangalore in tatters. Despite going for runs, Norris then took her fifth wicket getting the wicket of Heather Knight. It was a superb bowling effort by the left-handed bowler from the USA to end with figures of 5 for 29 in 4 overs. Delhi Capitals won the match by 60 runs and register a resounding win.
For her 5 for 29 in 4 overs, Tara Norris was awarded the player of the match award. It was a remarkable performance by Norris who gave away just 3 boundaries in her 4 overs and included 9 dot deliveries.
She would be looking to continue her brilliant performances in the upcoming matches and also showcase her talent against top-quality batters. Norris looked impressive with her variations and kept the momentum going for Delhi Capitals by picking wickets at regular intervals.
