Gujarat Titans (GT) emerged as the winner in their clash, beating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 62 runs at MCA stadium in Pune.  With this win, Gujarat became the first team to qualify for playoffs in IPL 2022.

Gujarat had a small total of just 144 runs on board to defend. Mohammed Shami gave an amazing start for Gujarat in the powerplay. He kept on applying pressure on Quinton De Kock and KL Rahul. Shami gave away just 5 runs in his 3 overs in the powerplay and picked the most important wicket of KL Rahul.

Yash Dayal supported Shami really well and picked up two wickets. LSG was struggling at 37/3 at the end of the powerplay before Rashid Khan joined the party. The Afghan spin wizard dismissed Krunal Pandya in the 8th over to completely turn the match towards Gujarat Titans.

Marcus Stoinis scored just two runs and was dismissed run out due to a misunderstanding with Deepak Hooda. Rashid dismissed Hooda, which was the final nail in the coffin for Lucknow. Rashid Khan bowled an amazing spell of 25/4 in four overs while debutant Sai Kishore chipped in with two wickets.

Shubhman Gill shines for Gujarat Titans on a tricky pitch

Earlier in the match, Gujarat Titans won the toss and elected to bat first on a tricky pitch. GT didn’t get a good start in the powerplay. They lost early wickets of Wriddhiman Saha and Mathew Wade. Hardik Pandya also failed to create his impact with the bat. Shubman Gill anchored from one end and played a fine knock of 63* runs in 49 balls on a tough batting track.

In the end, Rahul Tewatia also played an impactful knock of 22* runs in 16 balls to take Gujarat to a total of 144 runs. Avesh Khan picked up two wickets giving away just 24 runs in 4 Overs. Mohsin Khan and Krunal Pandya too bowled an economical spell which resulted in regular wickets.
