Babar Azam was again dismissed for a single-digit score against South Africa in Sydney on Thursday, November 3. Unlike the previous edition in the UAE where he was at his fluent best and was the leading run-scorer of the tournament this time he has failed to reach a double-digit score.

Babar’s poor performance has reflected even on the team’s performance in this edition. It seems that several captains haven’t been able to contribute sufficiently in the team’s success such as Temba Bavuma, Rohit Sharma, and Kane Williamson.

In UAE they made it to the semi-finals but this time it seems impossible unless they win their remaining games and have a few results in their favour. He has scored only 14 runs in his four innings at an average of 3.5. Pakistan as a team is very reliant on Babar Azam scoring runs. The openers contribute 50% of the team’s total runs this year out of all the teams who qualified directly for the Super-12s.

Let’s take a look at some of the fan reactions to Babar’s poor outing with the bat:

Apart from his batting, he has also faced a lot of criticism in regard to his captaincy, especially in the game against India. He has been called a bad captain by several former cricketers.

Pakistan post 185 after an early batting debacle

Pakistan who opted to bat today at Sydney has scored 185-9 in their 20 overs. In this game to everyone’s surprise the middle order of the team stood up. Contributions from Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz and finishing touches by Shadab Khan have taken Pakistan to this total. Both Shadab and Iftikhar scored half-centuries.

The former scored his runners at a strike rate of 236.26 which included 3 fours and four maximums. Pakistan will hope to defend this target against the in-form Proteas.
