Twitter is one of the most controversial social media platforms that have been in news these days. It again came into the limelight as it removed the verified badges of popular cricket stars like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and MS Dhoni.

Only those paying for Twitter Blue, which costs $8 per month via the web and $11 per month via in-app payment on iOS and Android, have verified blue checkmarks for their individual Twitter accounts.

Several B-town stars, including Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Alia Bhatt, and politicians like Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi, as well as cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, among others, have lost their badges from their Twitter handles as a result of the recent update.

According to a previous announcement, Twitter will no longer display the verified checkmark next to any accounts that were recognized as notable before Elon Musk acquired the company. Unless those accounts have a Twitter Blue or Twitter Verified Organizations subscription, according to Variety.

The blue tick was initially used as a safeguard against impersonation and to combat false information about famous people!

In a tweet from their official account earlier in March. Twitter stated: “On April 1st, we will start winding down our legacy verified program and removing legacy verified checkmarks.” Signing up for Twitter Blue allows users to maintain their blue checkmark on the social media platform. ‘

Twitter first introduced the blue check mark system in 2009 to make it easier for users to tell which accounts were legitimate and which were impersonators or parodies of famous people, politicians, businesses and brands, news organizations, and other accounts ‘of public interest’.

Previously, the company didn’t charge for verification. Within two weeks of the company’s acquisition last year. Musk launched Twitter Blue with the check-mark badge as one of the deluxe perks.
