Team India registered another series win as they defeated New Zealand by seven runs at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui to complete a clean-sweep. But young all-rounder Shivam Dube had a bad day in business conceding 34 runs in an over with Tim Seifert and Ross Taylor taking him for cleaners.
New Zealand didn’t have a great start to their run chase of 164 runs set by India losing three top-order batters withing 17 runs. But Taylor and Seifert stitched an outstanding partnership which changed the course of the game. They added 99 runs for the fourth wicket and the momentum came during the eighth over of the match when they yielded 34 runs from a Shivam Dube over.

The Kiwi wicket-keeper struck Shivam Dube for two sixes in the first two balls. The third ball went for a boundary before Tim Seifert took a single to give the strike to Ross Taylor. The veteran batsman piled more misery on the youngster from Mumbai. The next ball was a no-ball which went for a four before ending the over with two more sixes. In total, Dube conceded 34 runs which is the second-most expensive over in the history of T20I cricket after Stuart Broad, who gave away 36 runs.
While it looked like New Zealand’s game from there on but Jasprit Bumrah excelled in the second half of the Kiwi innings to help India inflict a whitewash. He returned with figures of three for 12 in his four overs to go home with the man of the match award. Meanwhile, Shivam Dube faced a severe backlash on social media site Twitter for his poor outing. Some fans even enrolled him for the Dinda academy. Notably, whenever a bowler goes for too many runs, fans call him a member of the Dinda academy and Dube also had to face the heat.
Here are some of the reactions on Twitter:
