Umpire Faces Heat After He Signals A Short-Run In 19th Over Against KXIP

Umpire error cost Punjab game Kings XI Punjab report umpire

Delhi Capitals have pulled off a majestic heist beating Kings XI Punjab in the Super Over in the second game of IPL 2020. However, it was an error from the umpire at the Dubai International Stadium which cost Punjab their first game of the season.

A maverick from Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis helped Delhi Capitals put a decent total on the board. Capped by seven boundaries and three sixes, Stoinis guided Delhi to 157 runs. Although it didn’t look much at the halfway stage, but a top-order collapse made things difficult for Kings XI.

Ravichandran Ashwin scalped two wickets before walking off the field owing to an injury put Delhi in the right stead. While wickets tumbled on from one end, Mayank Agarwal kept going and almost took Punjab home. He smashed 89 off 60 balls to keep KXIP in the contest.

But Marcus Stoinis – Delhi’ lucky charm once again joined the party to dismiss Mayank and Chris Jordan off the last two deliveries to finish the game in a tie. It all boiled down to the Super Over, where Kagiso Rabada first got KL Rahul with a pace short ball that the KXIP skipper top-edged only as far as Axar Patel at midwicket.

He then sent Nicolas Pooran’s off-stump for a walk as the West Indian attempted a wild swing and got nowhere close to connecting bat with ball. There was no more drama in store as DC walked to their target of three to sneak through in what turned out to be quite the thriller.

However, a clip from the 19th over involving Chris Jordan went viral on social media. During the 19th over of the nail-biting thriller, Chris Joran had reached his ground while taking a run. However, due to an umpiring error, the Punjab franchise was not awarded a run.

The umpire declared it as a short run, resulting in many fans criticising the umpiring standards of the game. The replays showed that Jordan had comfortably made his ground. Many even felt that it was ultimately the short-run umpiring error which cost KXIP the match.
