IPL 2024: “Umpires Are There…”: DC Coach Pravin Amre’s Firm Stance On The Samson Dismissal Issue

Delhi Capitals assistant coach Pravin Amre asserts that the umpire’s decision must be honoured amid the debate over Sanju Samson‘s dismissal in the IPL 2024 match against Rajasthan Royals.

Samson, batting on 86, struck a lofted shot straight down the ground off Mukesh Kumar, where Shai Hope completed the catch at long-on. Despite Hope’s proximity to the boundary line, replays indicated a potential touch before completing the catch.

The third umpire’s ruling favoured DC, leading to a heated exchange between Samson and the on-field umpires. While the incident has sparked discussions, Amre believes it was a close call and emphasizes that, with the available technology, the umpire’s decision is final.

“In IPL some moments are very crucial, and it was a deciding moment in the game. Sanju was batting so well. We have to give credit to the way Hope judged that catch. Umpires are there, and there is so much technology.”

“We also thought from the dugout that he has (touched the boundary) but it (happens) in the game, and the umpire’s decision is the final decision. It wasn’t an easy catch, it was really travelling. After the game also I spoke to him and he said the ball came very, very fast,” Amre told reporters.

DC kept their hopes of reaching the IPL 2024 playoffs alive with a pivotal win against RR

“The way our bowlers executed at the back end was the main positive and it was really good to see. We will try to learn from every game. Even when we lose or win, we will keep our head down and keep moving forward.”

“As always Kuldeep delivered which was great to see. It was close to par and at the same time we were thinking that if we can restrict them to 200 that would be fair and that was the thought process,” DC captain Rishabh Pantsaid after the match.

Delhi Capitals are currently positioned fifth in the IPL 2024 points table. SRH and CSK share the fourth position with 12 points each, while RR holds the second spot with 16 points, and KKR leads the table with the same tally.

On May 12th, Delhi Capitals (DC) will face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
