Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Umran Malik‘s struggles in his red-ball career persist as he is reportedly out for four to six weeks due to a hip injury. Consequently, he is expected to miss the first phase of the Ranji Trophy, which starts on October 11.
As per K Sports Watch, the Jammu and Kashmir team is likely to replace him with either Waseem Bashir or Umar Nazir. Umran was anticipated to participate in the 2024 Duleep Trophy as part of Team C, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, but he was ruled out due to dengue.
This setback occurred while he was still recovering from a hamstring injury he sustained during the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season with the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH).
“Unfortunately, even that didn’t go the way I wanted. But it also gave me the time to work on things I wanted to in the practice sessions. I’ve definitely become a better bowler if you ask me.”
”After the IPL, I injured my hamstring and just as I recovered I’m down with dengue,” Umran Malik voiced frustration over his lackluster IPL campaigns and injuries in an interview with the Indian Express in August.
Following an impressive 2022 IPL season, which was his first full campaign, the pacer received his first national call-up. However, his career has struggled since then, with disappointing performances in the last two IPL seasons, and he is currently not in consideration for Team India across formats.

There have been frequent calls for the speedster to be part of a strong domestic structure. Malik urgently needs a revival, which could be achieved through a successful domestic season, whether in white-ball or red-ball cricket.
He has played 12 first-class matches to date, with his most recent appearance in February 2024 during the Ranji Trophy. The right-arm pacer has taken 16 wickets at an average of 44.62.
Many have noted his inconsistency despite his impressive speed. He may be racing against time to recover in time for Jammu and Kashmir’s domestic white-ball tournaments later this year.
