Unknown Facts About Kerala’s New-Born Star Mohammad Azharuddeen

Mohammad Azharuddeen single-handedly won the match for Kerala against Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. He scored an unbeaten 137 of just 54 balls to help his side win the game by 8 wickets. They chased down the target of 201 need for victory with 25 balls to spare. The Twitterverse went berserk after this unbelievable innings from the youngster.

Fittingly, Azharuddeen played the winning shot, a huge six over mid-wicket off Siddhesh Lad. His knock included 11 sixes and nine boundaries remained unbeaten on 137 runs from 54 deliveries which made him the first batsman to score a century for Kerala in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

He went all guns blazing from the first delivery and took on Tushar Deshpande from the second over costing him 55 runs off his three overs.

1) Mohammad Azharuddeen was born in 1994, Kasaragod, Kerala. He had seven elder brothers and he was the youngest of them all.

2) Sachin Tendulkar was his role model like many budding cricketers in India during his young days.

3) His name was kept by the name of former Indian skipper Mohammed Azharuddin, of whom his big brother was a big fan. This his name was kept as such instead of the name Ajmal chosen by them.

4) Mohammad Azharuddeen went to the Kerala Cricket Academy in his early days and started playing cricket as a youngster. His coach and warden made sure he learn the basics of the game there.

5) Mohammad Azharuddeen started playing at age of 11 for my district and joined KCA academy at the age of 15. By 17 he represented the state and debuted for Ranji at 21. Since then, he has represented Kerala in Ranji for 5 consecutive years and won the best wicket-keeper from Kerala Cricket Association for 3 years consecutively.

6) Indian skipper Virat Kohli is one cricketer he idolises in recent times and he wants to become a successful international cricketer for India in the future.
