Unmukt Chand Continues His Sublime Form In USA Minor League Cricket

Unmukt Chand, the Indian under-19 World Cup-winning skipper is having a stunning cricketing season in the USA, so far. Chand is leading team Silicon Valley Strikers in the Minor Cricket League for the second consecutive time and has scored a couple of fifties in as many games.

Chand led the Strikers to the victory with a proper captain’s knock, in the opening game of the season against Hollywood Master Blasters. He played an unbeaten knock of 94 runs in 65 deliveries, with five sixes and seven boundaries. Aided by Chand’s contribution with the bat, Strikers posted a huge total of 180 runs for four wickets.

In reply, the Master Blasters remained far behind the target as the Strikers bowlers wrapped their innings at a score of 117 for nine, winning the game by 63 runs. Chand was handed the Player of the Match award.

Chand furthermore, on the very next day (June 26), scored an impactful inning of 53 runs in 34 deliveries, against Local Lashings. His knock comprised eight boundaries. Strikers put on a defendable total of 175 for seven.

While, Lashings again, fell for 132 runs and Strikers won the game by 43 runs.

Meanwhile, Chand moved to the USA (United States of America) back in August 2021, after he retired from Indian cricket. The Strikers won a Minor Cricket League title under Chand’s leadership, in October.

I want to play for USA- Unmukt Chand

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Chand had revealed that he wants to represent the USA in international cricket. He said: ” It is wonderful to be playing alongside cricketers from South Africa, West Indies, Australia, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. USA Cricket is growing massively. I want to play for the USA but before that, I want to make sure I score lots of runs. I will be eligible to play for the USA when I complete 36 months in the country.”

Chand will be eligible to represent the USA in 2024. Chand also played a couple of games for Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League 2021-22. Meanwhile, in India, Chand played for India-A and was a part of a 30-member squad for two ICC events. He has represented Delhi and Uttarakhand in domestic cricket, while the 29-year-old has played for Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, and Rajasthan Royals, in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
