England defeated India by seven wickets in the fifth Test match at Edgbaston in Birmingham, chasing down 378 runs in the fourth innings. With this win, England have levelled the Test series against India by 2-2. Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow played the biggest role in this win for England in successfully chasing down a mammoth total.
Alex Lees and Crawley gave a brilliant start to England on day 4 in the run chase. They played with an attacking approach and added 107 runs for the opening partnership. India made a brilliant comeback by taking three wickets within a span of three runs. Bumrah picked up the wicket of Crawley and Pope.
But England didn’t let their shoulders down. Joe Root and Johnny Bairstow continued to play with a positive approach. Both of them added 259 runs partnership for the fourth wicket and took England over the finishing line. Root scored 142 runs in 173 balls, while Bairstow scored 114 runs in 145 balls in the run chase.
It was a historical run chase for the England team. This is their highest-ever run chase in the history of Test Cricket. Several cricket fans praised the positive approach of the England team in this entire summer season which also included a 3-0 win against New Zealand. Coach Brendon McCullum has completely revolutionised the approach of the Indian test team.

This loss hurts because we didn’t even force England into bazzball, it was a cakewalk for them. Defensive mindset & weak strategy by Rahul Dravid & captain Jasprit Bumrah. #INDvENG #IndvsEng

Crazy and unbelievable cricket from England. The first team in Test history to chase 250+ targets in four consecutive matches. 277, 296, 299 against New Zealand and now 378 against India. #BazBall
