Tiger Robi, a Bangladeshi fan, reportedly faced an unpleasant experience during the second Test match between India and Bangladesh at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur. According to the Uttar Pradesh Police, Robi was fine and had been taken to Regency Hospital for a medical check-up after collapsing at the stadium.
Robi, a supporter from Dhaka, was allegedly beaten and heckled by local spectators before fainting due to heat exhaustion in an unauthorized section of the stadium. The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association had closed this particular stand due to safety concerns, yet Robi found his way into the area and waved a Bangladeshi flag.
The Police official said:”He is fine now, and we took him to Regency Hospital for a check-up. There was no assault, just a case of heat exhaustion.”
Bangladesh’s Struggle and Recovery
This act led to a confrontation with some Indian fans, prompting security personnel to intervene and diffuse tensions. While the police stated that no physical assault had taken place, Robi later alleged that he was attacked during the lunch break.
Meanwhile, on the field, Bangladesh reached 107 for 3 in 35 overs before rain halted the first day of play. India capitalized on favourable seam conditions early in the match. Akash Deep’s brilliant opening spell left Bangladesh struggling at 33/2, with both Zakir Hasan and Shadnam Islam dismissed. Zakir fell to a stunning catch by Yashasvi Jaiswal, while Shadnam was trapped lbw after a smart use of the Decision Review System (DRS) by Indian captain Rohit Sharma.
Despite the early setbacks, Bangladesh showed signs of recovery. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque forged a steady partnership, but Shanto’s dismissal by Ravichandran Ashwin before lunch was a crucial blow. Mominul, however, remained unbeaten on 40 and was joined by Mushfiqur Rahim as Bangladesh began to claw back. Rain and bad light eventually forced an early end to the day, offering India relief as the visitors seemed to find their footing.
