Teen batting prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi endured a brief stay at the crease on his India A debut, scoring 14 runs from 12 balls in the opening match of the 2026 tri-series against Sri Lanka A in Dambulla on Tuesday, June 9. The 15-year-old earned his maiden India A call-up during an outstanding IPL 2026 season with Rajasthan Royals.
Opening the innings alongside Prabhsimran Singh after captain Tilak Varma chose to bat first, the left-hander started confidently with elegant boundaries through the off-side. He struck another four in the very next delivery, quickly finding momentum and unsettling the Sri Lankan bowlers.
Suryavanshi continued aggressively with another boundary in the following over, but Chamika Karunaratne cleverly mixed cutters and slower bouncers to trouble the youngster. After struggling against the variations, he eventually attempted an attacking shot against Mohammad Shiraz and lost his wicket.
The left-hander attempted to loft the full delivery over the mid-off region but failed to get enough height on the shot, allowing the fielder inside the circle to come into action. Sahan Arachchige charged in from mid-off and completed a superb low diving catch just inches above the ground.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi looked disappointed as he made his way back to the pavilion after handing Sri Lanka A an early wicket. Soon after, opening partner Prabhsimran Singh also departed, reducing India A to 16/2 inside the fifth over.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi Has Played Just 8 List A Matches In His Career
The young batting prodigy’s strong T20 performances in the IPL have been widely noticed, but his exposure in List A cricket remains limited, with just eight matches played since his debut for Bihar in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in December 2024.
Before making his India A debut, his most recent List A outing came in the 2025–26 Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he played a quickfire knock of 31 runs off just 10 balls against Meghalaya.
