Vaibhav Suryavanshi Receives Maiden India Call-Up For England & Ireland T20Is

The selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar has announced India national cricket team’s squads for the upcoming away T20I series against Ireland cricket team and England cricket team. In a major development, Shreyas Iyer has officially been appointed as India’s new T20I captain, replacing Suryakumar Yadav.

Teen sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has also secured his maiden national call-up following a sensational Indian Premier League 2026 campaign. Meanwhile, World Cup-winning skipper Suryakumar has not only lost the captaincy but has also been excluded from the T20I squad altogether.

Shreyas Iyer, who has been appointed the new captain, reportedly joined the selection meeting virtually as he prepares to lead India national cricket team into a new phase built on the success of the T20 World Cup 2026-winning core.

India have retained most of the squad that lifted the trophy, with key additions including Shreyas and teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Another notable inclusion is Prince Yadav, who has earned a spot in the T20I setup after recently being called up to the ODI side.

However, the successful Royal Challengers Bengaluru pair of Rajat Patidar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were overlooked for both tours. India have also made a change in the vice-captaincy role, with Axar Patel removed from the position to make way for Tilak Varma.

Meanwhile, right-arm pacer Harshit Rana has returned after recovering from a long-term knee injury that ruled him out of both the 2026 T20 World Cup and Indian Premier League 2026.
