Varun Chakravarthy can be an X Factor for Kolkata Knight Riders

Varun Chakravarthy may be considered an “Impact Player” by Aakash Chopra for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2023.

Beginning their tournament run on Saturday, April 1, the team from Kolkata will travel to Mohali to take on the Punjab Kings (PBKS). Although the defending champions have a strong bowling attack competing, Shreyas Iyer’s potential unavailability has taken a significant toll on their batting.

Varun Chakravarthy could serve as an impact player for the KKR – Aakash Chopra

He discussed the bowling of the team in a video posted to his YouTube channel. “They have choices in bowling. As the Impact Player, you can choose between Kulwant Khejrolia or Vaibhav Arora. Your spinner can serve as an impact player if the ball is turning. Given that you won’t need his batting, I believe Varun Chakravarthy can also be the Impact Player.”

The former Indian opener clarified that Umesh Yadav and Shardul Thakur, two powerful Indian seamers, are available for KKR.

“With the new ball last year, Umesh Yadav bowled incredibly well. On the home field, where the ball will naturally swing, I anticipate the same, at the very least. Umesh Yadav is one, and Shardul Thakur is the other Indian bowler.”

Chopra continued by pointing out that KKR also has some fantastic spin-bowling options.

“He (Shardul) can be slightly expensive but he is a wicket-taking bowler. You can choose to play Anukul Roy in addition to the two spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine. So long as you cover this fundamental ground, everything will be fine.”

In the 11 games he played in the IPL 2022, Varun Chakravarthy only managed to take six wickets and gave up an average of 8 points and 51 runs per over. Sunil Narine had an exceptional economy rate of 5.57 last season despite only managing nine wickets in 14 games.
