West Indies veteran Darren Bravo has opted to take a hiatus from international cricket following his omission from the upcoming ODI series against England. The seasoned middle-order batsman, who last participated in international matches in February 2022, conveyed his decision via social media.
Bravo, boasting a cricket career spanning over 14 years, having represented West Indies in 200 games, disclosed his choice after being left out of the England series. In Test cricket, he accumulated 3538 runs at an average of 36.47, including eight centuries, while in ODIs, he notched 3109 runs with a close-to-30 average and four centuries.
Despite a stellar performance in the Super50 Cup 2023, where he amassed 416 runs at an average of 83.2 and a strike rate of 92.03, featuring a century and three fifties, Bravo was not selected for the England ODIs. The selection committee aimed to provide opportunities to younger players, looking ahead to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.

Expressing his thoughts on Instagram, Bravo revealed that the decision prompted him to contemplate his cricketing future. He stated, “It’s not easy at this point in my career to find the energy, passion, commitment, and discipline required to perform at my best and make a return to international cricket.”
Lamenting the lack of communication, Bravo expressed feeling in a “very dark place.” He questioned his exclusion from the teams despite his regional tournament performances, interpreting it as a clear sign of his diminishing prospects.
However, Bravo clarified that he is not giving up on international cricket entirely. “I believe it’s best to step away just for a bit and maybe make some room for a young and upcoming talent,” he asserted, concluding with well-wishes for everyone. The West Indies is scheduled to face England in a home white-ball tour, comprising three ODIs and five T20Is, commencing on 3 December.
