It was 3:45 a.m when the women in blue reached the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. As soon as they came out the airport area turned red-hot and they were greeted with a grand reception.
The Women’s team gathered much attention after their heroics in the recently concluded World Cup. Being the seven ranked team in the ICC ODI rankings, nobody expected much out of them. But they turned the table right from the beginning of the tournament beating the mighty England on their home soil. Though they didn’t lift the trophy, with their courageous performance on the field, they earned heaps of praise from all around the globe.

The followers of women cricket gathered in huge numbers at the airport area and cheered and clapped with great enthusiasm for their new heroes as soon as the players started coming out. People started pushing each other just to get a glimpse of their beloved players and to take pictures of them. Within minutes, the airport was full of people and people shouted taking names of their heroes.

Earlier on the day of the final around 26,000 people gathered at the mecca of cricket to watch the match between India and England, and millions sat in front of their television sets to watch the final as per reports.

Later in an interview, Mithali Raj was heard saying that this is a beginning of good times in women’s cricket in India, as many girls will be eager to take cricket as a career now. She also talked about creating a base for women’s cricket in India.
