VIDEO: Here is why Gayle was taken off the dug-out by umpire Ian Gould: West Indies are having the best of their run in the ongoing World T20 championship from last couple of years but in their clash against Sri Lanka on Sunday, an amazing incident took place. In the 16th over of the match, umpire Ian Gould dragged Chris Gayle from near the boundary ropes to inside the stadium’s facilities, not allowing him to come on to bat. Fans at M Chinnaswamy stadium were left disappointed after they missed Jamaican giant Chris Gayle’s show with the willow.
West Indies won the match comfortably by 7 wickets victory with 10 balls to spare, but without a contribution from their primary destroyer Chris Gayle. Gayle was not allowed to open the innings because he was off the field for a considerable time. While his team were fielding, Gayle was impaired with a left hamstring injury.
According to the rules of ICC, an injured or unfit player who has left the field is required to spend a period back on the field at least equal to the time that they were absent before they are allowed to bat or bowl.
