There has been a lot of words exchanged between former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag and former Pakistan wicket-keeper Rashif Latif post Sehwag”s tweet.
India walked into the ICC Champions Trophy as hot favorites. After steamrolling Pakistan in their first league game at Edgbaston Sehwag in a tweet called Pakistan “Bete” (India”s son) and Bangladesh “Pote” (grandson). This invited displeasure among many Pakistani people back home including former wicketkeeper Rashid Latif.
After India”s defeat against Sri Lanka at The Oval on 8 June Rashid Latif posted a short 14-min video clip on his Facebook page where he lashed out at Sehwag. He used some strong words and made some claims that will trigger debates.
He called India “Darpok” ( hindi word for coward) and said India are too afraid to play Pakistan that”s why they don”t come to Sharjah. He also warned India they will be up against South Africa in two days time where they will have to face likes of Amla and Imran Tahir.
He also talked about the ancient Mughal empire and told Sehwag that since he comes from Najafgarh, his father is Mirza Najaf Khan (the emperor of Najafgarh). He furthered warned not to make such statements in future.
This left Indian fans fuming and Twitterati exploded in anguish. Indian batsman Manoj Tiwary even made a video in response to this and lashed out at Rashid Latif for all his statements against Sehwag.
The war of words has gone to a whole new level. It is should be interesting to see what pans out on Twitter and other social media should India and Pakistan meet each other again in semi-final on June 18.
