VIDEO: Martin Guptill smashes 93* off 30 to shatter records: Inexperienced Sri Lanka are ongoing a series a collapse from last couple of series. After being whitewashed in the Test series in New Zealand, their ODI form have been pathetic in the first two games so far. New Zealand have thrashed Sri Lanka in the second ODI in Christchurch and it was all Martin Guptill show in the second innings.
Guptill launched rampage on the Lankan bowlers to entertain the Christchurch crowd, smashing 93 off just 30 balls as Kiwis crushed Sri Lanka by 10 wickets to lead the 5-match series 2-0. Guptil scored 79 percent of the score set by Sri Lanka to chase after they were bowled out for 117.
Ballistic with the bat, Guptill brought up fastest fifty by a Kiwi after reaching the landmark in 17 balls eclipsing his skipper McCullum, who did it in 18 balls. This is just one-ball short of the overall record in ODIs, held by AB de Villiers with 16 balls. However de Villiers’ record was in danger as the Kiwi opener raced to 46 from 13 balls and faced two excellent Yorkers from Kulasekara thereafter.
New Zealand reached the target in 8.2 overs and the entire match lasted shorter than a complete T20 match. Guptill blasted eight sixes and nine fours to remain not out on 93 off 30 balls. New Zealand won the match playing exactly 50 balls, and with 250 balls to spare, this is the biggest victory in ODIs since 36 years (seventh overall in ODIs).
