The first round of Sheffield Shield 2017-18 was the one to watch out for. All Australian international cricketers turned up to play for their states to get some match practice before the Ashes 2017-18. The Ashes kicks off on November 23 at Gabba, Brisbane.
In one fixture, South Australia was playing New South Wales in a day-night game with the pink ball. The New South Wales team was star-studded with David Warner, Steve Smith, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins all on the same team. The fixture was being played at the iconic Adelaide Oval.
South Australia opted to bat after winning the toss and skipper Travis Head was left regretting his decision badly. The men in red were bowled out in the first session for just 92. Pacer Trent Copeland picked up 6 wickets. In response, New South Wales scored 242, with Warner scoring 83. Skipper Steve Smith departed after scoring just 3.
Trailing by 150, South Australia needed a good start. However, Mitchell Starc was at his devastating best as he picked up career-best 8/73. Starc was on fire, spewing venom in all directions. Most of the dismissals were lbws and bowls. To tail-enders, he went around the wicket and started firing in yorkers, either making a mess of the timber or trapping them Lbw in front.
Watch Here:-
South Australia was bowled out for 206, with a lead of just 56. NSW chased down 57 comfortably and won by 6 wickets. This performance gives us a hint that we might see Mitchell Starc 2.0 in the Ashes.
