Former India captain of the team, Mahendra Singh Dhoni reminded the cricketing world about his power-hitting abilities during a first T20I match against Sri Lanka played at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack. He came at number 4 in the batting order after the fall of Iyer’s wicket. Dhoni looked in aggressive mood from start.
After the wicket of KL Rahul, Manish Pandey and Mahendra Singh Dhoni played with positive intent scoring 61 runs in the last overs. Thisara Perera bowled the final over of the innings. In the first 5 balls, Sri Lankan captain gave away just 7 runs. Mahendra Singh Dhoni bowled a low full toss which was smashed over deep square leg which helped team India to post a competitive of 180 for 3. He remained not out on 39 off 22 balls.
Sri Lankan captain Thisara Perera won the toss and elected to field. In the first six overs, India scored 50 runs for the loss off 1 wicket. KL Rahul played a good knock of 61. MS Dhoni played with aggressive intent. It was a good knock by Dhoni who ran fast between the wickets. It was an amazing partnership by Manish Pandey and MS Dhoni putting on unbeaten 68 runs in 5.3 overs.
With an inexperienced batting order for this T20I series against Sri Lanka, MS Dhoni played a key role for India in helping team India post a competitive total. In the last T20I series against New Zealand, the former captain was criticized for his slow batting. He proved time and time again, that he would play a key role in 2018 with overseas tours.
