Dinesh Karthik smashed a stunning last-ball six off Soumya Sarkar bowling to steal from jaws of defeat and help Men in Blue to create a memorable win in the Nidahas Trophy 2018 tri-series finals played at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Sunday night. It was an amazing scene for all the fans to watch a such an enthralling match.
Bangladesh was invited into bat by Indian captain Rohit Sharma. In the first six overs, the Indian bowlers picked 3 wickets. Sabbir Rahman scored a valuable 77 runs and contributions from Mahmudllah 21, Mehidy Hasan 19 helped Bangladesh post 166 for 7. Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of bowlers with 3 wickets.
Chasing 167, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan gave the team a flying start putting 32 runs in 2.4 overs. The Indian captain Rohit Sharma played a captains knock off 56 runs. Manish Pandey scored 28 off 27 balls. Vijay Shankar who was promoted ahead of Dinesh Karthik also struggled to time the ball.
Indian team required 34 runs off 12 balls. Dinesh Karthik came to the crease and smashed Rubel Hossain for 22 runs which changed the course of the game. In the final over bowled by Soumya Sarkar, Men in Blue required 5 runs off 1 ball, Dinesh Karthik was on strike and smashed a flat six to help the Indian team steal an unlikely win. The wicketkeeper-batsman remained not out on 29 off 8 balls.
Dinesh Karthik played brilliantly in the tournament with good contributions at important times. With the way Dinesh was hitting, he was looking calm and did not panic when Vijay Shankar was struggling to hit shots.
Dinesh Karthik’s sensational knock has come at the right time as the Tamil Nadu lad will captain Kolkata Knight Riders franchise for IPL season 11.
