Pakistan skipper was involved in an awkward moment in a press conference post Pakistan Vs South Africa game at Edgbaston on June 7. The 30 year old was appointed captain of Pakistan side in April 2017 following Azhar Ali”s dip in form and axing from the side.
Pakistan got their ICC Champions Trophy campaign to the worst possible start suffering a humiliating 124 run defeat in the hands of arch rivals India. They needed to regroup quickly before the do or die encounter against South Africa in two days time from there.
However Pakistan put up a much spirited performance against South Africa restricting them to 219. They were struggling in their run chase but rain came to their rescue and won the match on D/L. These two points in the bag were crucial for men in green to stay alive in the competition.
The highlight of that particular match was Pakistan”s fielding. Against India they had dropped crucial catches and very slow in 30 yard circle allowing Indians easy singles. In the game against South Africa they showed lot more urgency and even pulled off some good catches.
When being asked at press conference what different they did in that South Africa game, Sarfaraz emphasized on fielding following which the reporter came up with another question how they went about their fielding drills before the game? Sarfaraz stumbled and said they did “nothing” as their was rain and hence they weren”t able to practice. The entire group of reporters burst into laughter!
Sarfaraz stumbled again further added his boys were boosted up for South Africa game in broken English which was not properly understandable. The video went viral and Pakistan skipper was made a laughing stock for his inability to speak proper English at press conference.
