India B started the Deodhar Trophy 2018 with 43 runs win in the first match against India A played at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, New Delhi today. With Vihari 87 and other batsmen contributing, India B posted a decent total and then defeated the target with ease.
India B captain Sheryas Iyer won the toss and decided to bat first. Mayank Agarwal and Gaikwad got off to a decent start adding 28 runs for the first wicket before Siraj got the wicket of Gaikwad for 2 runs. Agarwal looked in aggressive touch along with captain Iyer. At end of 10 overs, India B scored 63 for 1.
Mayank Agarwal and Iyer added 59 runs for the 2nd wicket. India A got the wickets of Agarwal and Iyer in quick succession to put India B under pressure at 95 for 3. Manoj Tiwary and Hanuma Vihari steadied the ship with some good attacking stroke play taking singles, hitting bad balls away for boundaries. Tiwary reached his half-century off 55 balls and then was run out for 52.
India B bowlers picked wickets at regular intervals while Vihari continued to play a lone hand. Vihari reached his half-century off 67 balls and hit quick-fire runs at the end to remain not out on 87. India B posted 261 for 8 in 50 overs. For India A, R Ashwin picked 2 wickets while Kulkarni, Siraj, Krunal Pandya, Siddarth Kaul and Sheryas Gopal took 1 wicket each.
Chasing 262 runs to win, India B bowlers got off to a great start dismissing Shaw and Karun Nair in the early stages of the chase. Anmolpreet Singh and Captain Dinesh Karthik tried to steady the innings with 24 runs stand for the 3rd wicket. Deepak Chahar got the wicket of Anmolpreet Singh to put India A under pressure. India B reduced India A to 87 for 5.
Captain Dinesh Karthik and R Ashwin steadied the ship with a brilliant partnership. Karthik reached his half-century off 61 balls while Ashwin took time before playing big shots. Ashwin completed a half-century off 66 balls. Both of them added 123 runs for the 6th wicket before India B bowlers taking wickets at regular intervals. Dinesh Karthik was dismissed for 99. India A was bowled out for 218 in 46.4 overs.
For India B, Mayank Markande took 4 for 48 in 9.4 overs while Shahbaz Nadeem took 3 for 32, Varun Aaron took 2 for 45, Deepak Chahar 1 for 47.
India B 261 for 8 in 50 overs ( Hanuma Vihari 87*, Manoj Tiwary 52, Mayank Agarwal 46, R Ashwin 2/39) beat
India A 218 in 46.4 overs ( Dinesh Karthik 99, R Ashwin 54, Markande 4/48, S Nadeem 3/32) by 43 runs.
India B will take on India C in the 2nd match on 24th October.
