The BCCI is all set to kick off the Vijay Hazare Trophy from February 20. The board has written to the various state associations about the same. The tournament will be played across six venues with bubble protocols. Meanwhile, the players have asked to report at their assigned on February 13 to start their six-day quarantine. The BCCI recently staged the Syed Mushtaq Ali successfully with Tamil Nadu winning the tournament.
The BCCI has created six centres: Surat, Indore, Bangalore, Jaipur, Kolkata and an undecided venue in Tamil Nadu. The groups are as follows.
Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021 Groups
Elite A (Surat): Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Tripura, Hyderabad, Baroda and Goa
Elite B (Indore): Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Jharkhand, MP, Vidarbha and AP
Elite C (Bangalore): Karnataka, UP, Kerala, Odisha, Railways and Bihar
Elite D (Jaipur): Delhi, Mumbai, Maharashtra, HP, Rajasthan and Pondicherry
Elite E (Kolkata): Bengal, Services, J&K, Saurashtra, Haryana and Chandigarh
Plate (Tamil Nadu, city TBC): Uttarakhand, Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Sikkim
“The teams are required to assemble in their respective host cities on February 13 and will be needed to undergo Covid-19 testing procedure and Quarantine in accordance with the State regulatory authorities and the BCCI’s SOPs,” the BCCI mail to the state units, accessed by Cricbuzz, said on Sunday evening (February 6).
The league stage of the Vijay Hazare Trophy will be played from February 20 to March 1. Thereafter, a stage of testing and quarantine, the knockouts will begin from March 8. The final, after two days of rest following the semi-finals on March 11, will be played on March 14. The BCCI will announce the venues for the semifinals and the finals later. Karnataka are the defending Vijay Hazare champions.
As per reports in Cricbuzz, the women’s ODI matches initially planned to be played alongside the men’s ODIs will be now played after the league stage of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The reason for the delay is the availability of the bio-secure venues.
