Vinod Kambli Hospitalized With Fever; Condition Stable

Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli, currently admitted to the ICU of a private hospital in Thane district, developed a fever on Tuesday, though his condition remains stable, doctors treating him confirmed.

Kambli (52) is undergoing treatment for urinary tract infections, for which he was admitted to Akruti Hospital near Bhiwandi on Saturday (December 21), according to Dr. Vivek Trivedi, who is leading the medical team overseeing his care.

Doctors had planned an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) for the former cricketer, but the procedure has been delayed due to his fever. The MRI was recommended after earlier medical tests revealed clots in his brain, Dr. Trivedi said.

Kambli is expected to be moved out of the ICU within a day or two and discharged in about four days. When admitted, his condition was critical due to a severe urinary infection that had caused pus accumulation in his bladder, which was removed during initial treatment.

Remaining at home longer could have worsened his condition, as he also experienced fluctuating blood pressure upon admission, Trivedi noted.  His condition is stable now, but doctors will monitor him closely over the next 24 hours before deciding on shifting him out of the ICU, Trivedi added.

Eknath Shinde and Shrikant Shinde are likely to visit him at the hospital soon

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and the Shrikant Shinde Foundation, led by his MP son, have extended support to Kambli.

On the Deputy CM’s instructions, his Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Mangesh Chiwte visited the hospital to inquire about Kambli’s health and ensure he receives optimal care, as stated in a release from the Deputy CM’s office.

Shrikant Shinde has announced financial assistance of ₹5 lakh for Kambli, to be provided through the Dr. Shrikant Shinde Foundation next week, and has assured further support for the cricketer and his family.

Expressing gratitude, Kambli thanked Eknath Shinde and Shrikant Shinde for their support and expressed his desire to meet the Deputy CM personally to acknowledge their help during his time of need, the release added.
