Virat Kohli 23 Runs Away From Breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s Massive Record

Virat Kohli

Team India skipper Virat Kohli has had a mixed start to the tour of Australia which pretty much sums up India’s fortunes so far. Kohli will be desperate to hit the strides in the 3rd ODI in Canberra and is also on the verge of achieving a massive milestone.

The Men in Blues will have a lot to play for in the third and the final ODI after going down 2-0 in the series. They will be keen to make a mark and regain their confidence ahead of the three-match Twenty20 series. However, for that to happen, India will want their main man Virat Kohli to play a big knock and lead the team from the front.

Virat Kohli close in on Tendulkar’s record

Kohli played a scintillating 89-run knock in the 2nd ODI during India’s 390-run chase. But a great catch from Moises Henriques ended his stay as India lost the match by 51 runs. This time around, the visitors will want the talismanic scorer to bat till the end.

As India look to prevent the clean sweep, Virat Kohli will be approaching a personal milestone. He will have a chance to surpass India legend Sachin Tendulkar to become the fastest player to reach 12,000 run-mark in the ODIs. Kohli is just 23 runs away from achieving the milestone.

If he manages to do so, he would reach the mark in his 251st ODI, and 242nd innings. In comparison, it took Tendulkar 309 matches and 300 innings to reach the mark. Overall, Kohli will be the sixth player in the list, only after Australia’s Ricky Ponting, Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara, Sanath Jayasuriya, and Mahela Jayawardene.
