Virat Kohli admitted that it was truly a bizarre match as India completed an easy victory over England on day 2 itself at Ahmedabad. The Indian captain also mentioned the fact that the standard of batting from both teams wasn’t of the highest order. No team could reach even a total of 15 runs in the Test match as it was an action-packed Test match that finished in the last session on day 2.

Eventually, India chased the target of 49 runs without losing any wicket and won the Test match by 10 wickets. Openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill went after the England spinners and wrapped up the match in style. After India’s win, Kohli talked about how the batsmen needed to trust their defence even on this pitch which was turning square. He also added that it was a bizarre game as no one expected that it would finish in just two days.

Kohli showered praises on Axar Patel who picked 11 wickets in the match. The Indian captain added that Axar was the perfect replacement for Ravindra Jadeja for the series as he bowls the perfect lengths for turning pitches. Kohli is pleased with the Indian win as it now takes them one step closer to the ICC world Test championship final. If team India wins or draws the final Test of the series they will clash against New Zealand in the world Test championship final in June 2021.

Lack of application from batsmen ensured it was a quick finish- Virat Kohli

“To be honest, I don’t think the quality of batting was up to standards. We were 100 for 3 and the bowled out for less than 150. It was just the odd ball turning and it was a good wicket to bat in the first innings. It was bizzare that 21 of the 30 wickets fell to straight balls, Test cricket is about trusting your defence. Lack of application ensured it was a quick finish. Bumrah said I am getting work load management while playing. Ishant said I am playing my 100th game and still don’t get to bowl. I have never experienced this before”, said Kohli.

“A bizzare game which got over in 2 days. A lot of people were relieved when Jaddu got injured. But then this guy comes in. Bowls it quicker and from a bigger height as well. If the wicket has something in it, Axar is very lethal. I think we need to stand up and take notice of what Ashwin has done. In Tests, he is a modern day legend. As a captain, I am so pleased he is in my team. We have to be ready for the hard grind. Few days extra off with a hectic schedule is welcoming”, he concluded.
