Indian skipper Virat Kohli is eyeing a major record in the first Test against England. He is just 14 short of overtaking former West Indian skipper Clive Llyod in the list of most runs scored by a Test captain. Virat has had a good run in the last two Test series against England. After Kohli’s forgetful England tour of 2014, he has scored over 1000 runs in the next two series against the opposition. Virat Kohli scored 655 runs in the 2016-17 series followed by 593 runs in the 2018 series.

He is eyeing to surpass several records with the bat in the upcoming Test series. Virat Kohli is only 14 runs away from surpassing Clive Lloyd’s tally and becoming the 4th highest run-getter in the longest format as captain. The only players above Kohli and Lloyd in the list are Graeme Smith (8,659), Allan Border (6,623), and Ricky Ponting (6,542).

Virat Kohli Eyeing To Surpass Sunil Gavaskar

He is also eyeing to surpass former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar in the list of highest run-getters against England at home. With 843 runs in 9 home Test matches, 32-year-old presently sits at the 6th spot on the list of most runs by Indian batsmen against England at home. The list is topped by Sunil Gavaskar, who scored 1331 runs in 22 matches.

The Indian skipper is 483 runs short of getting Gavaskar’s record. Sachin Tendulkar (960) and Gundappa Viswanath (1022 runs) are two other names that follow Gavaskar on the list.

England play India between February 5 to March 28 for four Tests, five T20Is, and three ODIs. Chennai will host the first two Tests. The final two Tests will be played at the newly built stadium in Ahmedabad. Ahmedabad will host the T20I series followed by Pune for the ODI series.

Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar and Virat Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma was recently involved in an unwanted controversy when the former’s words were misrepresented while he was doing commentary in an IPL game involving Royal Challengers Bangalore. While, Anushka blasted Gavaskar for his comments, the latter clarified his stance on the matter as well.
