Team India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has quashed all reports that Virat Kohli asked for a three-match ICC World Test Championship final in the wake of their defeat against New Zealand in the inaugural edition of the Test supremacy.
The 34-year-old Ashwin asserted that these are ridiculous talks that state Virat Kohli demanding a 3-match-Test series. Tamil Nadu-born Ravichandran Ashwin disclosed that when Michael Atherton asked Kohli about anything different that could be done in the World Test Championship (WTC).

Then the 32-year-old Kohli said 3 Test games can be held to crown the winners. Virat Kohli also stated a team can make a strong comeback from different situations. Ashwin clearly mentioned that Virat did not demand anything specifically.
“I happened to hear people saying that Virat Kohli asked for three Tests to be played for the WTC Final but it is ridiculous. After the match got over, Michael Atherton had asked what could be done differently in the WTC. Virat replied in a particular context that if three matches are played, then adaptability and come back for a team are possible. Kohli did not demand anything,” said Ashwin on his YouTube channel.
Billion Indians were looking forward to good news after lockdown: Ravichandran Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin added that a billion Indians cricket fans wanted some good news on the cricket field after the lockdown, but India was not able to deliver what fans expected. India lost the high-profile battle against New Zealand in the WTC final. Ashwin surmised by acknowledging that he wishes that India wins another ICC event.
“When we lose a final, fans would be disappointed. Perhaps, billion Indians were looking forward to good news after lockdown and stuff. But it didn’t happen. Fingers crossed. Just hoping we win some other ICC tournament,” concluded Ravichandran Ashwin.
India’s next challenge in the purest form of the game will be against England. Virat Kohli & Co is set to lock horns with England in 5-match Test series in England. The Test series is scheduled to start on 4 August 2021.
