Virat Kohli Eyes To Break Several Records In ODI Series Against Australia

After winning the 2023 Border Gavaskar Trophy, Team India will take on Australia in the three-match ODI series. The first ODI is set to take place on Friday, March 17 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Team India cricketer Virat Kohli will be eyeing to break multiple records in the upcoming ODI series.

The veteran batter is heading into the series on the back of a century in the fourth Test of the 2023 Border Gavaskar Trophy. He has also had a great run in the ODIs this year. In six matches, Virat Kohli has scored 338 runs at an average of 67.60, with two centuries to his name. He also slammed his second-highest ODI score of 166* runs this year against Sri Lanka. The right-handed batter will be keen to continue his stunning form in the upcoming series.

Virat Kohli has a brilliant record against Australia in ODIs. He has scored 2083 runs at an average of 54.81, with eight centuries and ten fifties. He is just 82 runs behind Ricky Ponting to become the third-highest run-scorer in India vs Australia ODIs. Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is at the top of the list with 3077 runs against Australia in ODIs.

Virat Kohli likely to surpass Ricky Ponting to score most runs in ODIs at home

Team India cricketer Virat Kohli has scored 5358 runs at an average of 58.87. He is third on the list of most runs scored in ODIs at home. Sachin Tendulkar is again at the top of the list with 6976 runs. Kohli has a chance to surpass Ricky Ponting who is second on the list. He needs 46 runs to go past the former Australian cricketer’s 5406 runs record.

The former Indian skipper is also nearing 13000 ODI runs. He needs 191 runs in the upcoming series to get to the milestone. Virat Kohli will become the fifth cricketer to achieve the feat, joining the elite list of Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara, Ricky Ponting, and Sanath Jayasuriya. He will also be eyeing to get close to Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most ODI centuries. Kohli needs three more centuries to go past the 49 ODI centuries record.
