The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15-member squad on Saturday for the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. The tour will begin on August 18 with the first ODI and will conclude on August 22. Veteran India batter, Virat Kohli, who is currently on a break has not been included in the team. It is learned through reports, that he has informed the selectors that he will be available from Asia Cup onwards.

Virat Kohli has not been at his best in the last couple of years. His last international century came against Bangladesh in 2019. He also failed to make much of an impact in the recently concluded tour of England. Amid poor form, the 33-year-old was given rest by the Indian selectors for the limited-overs tour to West Indies. As per speculations, he was supposed to be back for the Zimbabwe tour.

However, as per the latest reports in the Hindustan Times, Virat Kohli will make a comeback to the Indian team in the Asia Cup 2022, which will take place next month. The senior India batter has informed the selectors of his availability.

“Virat had spoken to selectors that he would be available from the Asia Cup onwards. The first team players will hardly get rest from Asia Cup till the end of World T20. Hence this is a two-week window after the Windies tour when they can rest,” a source was quoted as saying to the PTI by Hindustan Times.

Deepak Chahar makes a comeback to the Indian team for the Zimbabwe tour

Indian pacer Deepak Chahar will be making his comeback to the Indian team for the Zimbabwe tour. He missed the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well along with the subsequent international series for India due to an injury. However, now, the all-rounder has recovered and will soon return to action.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul will take more time to make his comeback to the Indian team. He underwent sports hernia surgery earlier this year and then tested positive for the covid-19 virus. The right-handed batter issued a statement to inform his fans that he is not yet completely fit.

Squad: Shikhar Dhawan (Captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, Deepak Chahar.
