Former India captain Virat Kohli expressed his admiration for Mohammed Siraj following his outstanding performance on Day 5 of the fifth Test against England at the Kia Oval. Kohli commended the grit and perseverance displayed by both Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, but gave special mention to Siraj for putting his body on the line for the team.
At 31, Siraj was the only Indian fast bowler to feature in all five Tests of the series. He delivered a tireless effort to help India clinch a thrilling six-run win on Monday. The right-arm pacer claimed nine wickets in the match, including a crucial five-wicket haul in the second innings, playing a key role in India’s dramatic comeback victory over England.
The 36-year-old Virat Kohli shared his thoughts in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account:
“Great win by team India. Resilience and determination from Siraj and Prasidh has given us this phenomenal victory. Special mention to Siraj who will put everything on the line for the team. Extremely happy for him.”

Hyderabad-born Mohammed Siraj ended the series as the top wicket-taker with 23 wickets in nine innings at an average of 32.43. He had dropped Harry Brook on Day 4, who went on to score 111, forging a 195-run stand with Joe Root that put England in control. However, Brook’s dismissal proved to be the turning point of the match.
Gill Lauds Siraj’s Heroics in Series Finale Against England
During the post-match presentation, India captain Shubman Gill highlighted that the right-arm pacer consistently gave his all throughout the series. He also reflected on how thrilling and memorable the series had been. The 25-year-old stated, as per Cricbuzz:
“He is a captain’s dream, every ball, every spell he bowled he came all out and gave it everything for the team. Both teams coming into Day 5 not knowing who would win shows how passionate both teams were and how hard everyone has played.”
