Indian skipper Virat Kohli has overtaken MS Dhoni with most wins as Indian Test skipper at home after the Pink-Ball Test. India’s win in Ahmedabad was Kohli’s 22nd at home, leaving behind the former Indian skipper’s 21 Test wins at home. Kohli has taken 29 Test matches to achieve the historic feat. He also has 35 wins as India’s Test captain which makes him top the list of most wins.

The closest to Virat Kohli among the former Indian skippers is also Dhoni. The Ranchi-born cricketer had 27 victories in 60 Tests. The other renowned leaders of Team India such as Sourav Ganguly and Mohammed Azharuddin had 21 and 14 Test wins respectively.

Team India are back at the top of the World Test Championship points table after knocking England out of contention for the final race. They now need to either win or draw the last Test to confirm a spot in the final alongside New Zealand. The final will be played at Lord’s from 18-22 June. England, who are now 2-1 down in the four-match series, needed to win the four-match series 3-1 to play the final. New Zealand are assured of a place in the final with 70 percentage points.

The game finished in well less than two days and just 842 balls were bowled in the match overall. It ranks among the lowest balls bowled in a Test match in the post-war era. This is just the second time that India have managed to wrap up a Test in just two days. They registered an innings and 262 run victory vs Afghanistan in Bengaluru in 2018 also inside two days.

With this win, India have bettered its chances of playing the WTC final against New Zealand in June later this year. Meanwhile, If India lose the final Test then Australia, who are in third place with 69.2 percentage points, will sneak in to make the final.
