Is Virat Kohli set to become the first active Indian player to play in a foreign league? Sydney Sixers made a significant announcement on April 1, revealing via their official X account that they have signed the star batter for the next two seasons of the Big Bash League.
Kohli has been a dominant figure in the Indian Premier League (IPL), holding the record for most runs in the tournament’s history, with 8094 runs, 8 centuries, and 56 half-centuries. Indian players are typically not permitted to participate in foreign leagues like the BBL until they retire, but the Sixers’ tweet sparked a wave of excitement on Tuesday morning.
“King Kohli! Virat Kohli is officially a Sixer for the next TWO seasons!” read the tweet from Sixers.
However, the Sixers later admitted that it was a prank to celebrate April Fools’ Day.

Fans reacted to the post, applauding the humor from the three-time BBL champions. Had the move been real, it would have meant Kohli joining Steve Smith, who has been a key player for the Sixers in recent seasons, as his teammate.
Kohli Makes Strong Start for RCB in IPL 2025
Virat Kohli had a strong start to IPL 2025, with RCB currently sitting at the top of the points table. They began their campaign with a dominant win over defending champions KKR, where Kohli played an unbeaten knock of 59 to guide his team to victory.
The second match was a mixed performance for the star batter as he struggled to find his rhythm against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk. Kohli scored 31 off 30 balls, but it was still a valuable contribution as Bengaluru secured a 50-run win, marking a rare victory at Chepauk.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) next match is scheduled for April 2, 2025, against Gujarat Titans (GT) at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The match will commence at 7:30 PM IST.
